Would a new pit bike 125 motor fit in an old yamaha motorbike? I am looking for a old 1980 yamaha RX125 a motor, time is not on my side. If i cannot find a RX125 or similar motor in time. Is it possible to fit one of those new pitbike engine onto the bike with some engine mount modification? slug4life replied: "I think you are barking up the wrong tree. Not only will you spend alot of time on mount fabrication, what about all the cables and controls?? If the pit bike is electric start, do you have enough room for the battery and the other things that you will need... AND when it is all done, you will have a 27 year old frame and suspension...
Go find a recent model dirt bike and modify it... you will save money and have a better performing bike."

Just change the plugs, clean the points, give 'er an oil change, too." How to convert a normal commercial bike to a dirt bike? This does sound a very broad question but I just need some initial guidelines on making a dirt bike out of a normal bike (125-150 cc). Materials? Total cost? Reliability? alex c replied: "i dont think it would be worth it, tyres, suspension, gear ratio's, handlebars and a lot of other things will have to be changed.

Just buy a dirt bike. It will work out a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle."

its not practicle at all and even if u tried, the parts cost will be over that of getting a fresh, new dirt bike.
just look for a good used dirt bike, check craigslist or cycletrader in ur local area and im sure ull find a great deal, especially in this economy.

i dont like four strokes and would prefer to stick with two stroke. i have even thought of going with the CR500 but i dont think they are as nimble in the woods. mkb_310 replied: "go with the 250...you'll be happy you have that extra power"
david m replied: "well i know a guy about ur size and he had a 125 but he blew it up about 2 weeks after he baught it new.dealer told him to go for the 250.but i think ur best bet would be get a 450 four stroke as the power is great and acceleration is awesome.its about the best trail bike i have ever seen or drivin."

aaronzhunt replied: "i would go for the 250. the 150 would be okk but the bike is kinda small and you would be hurting the engine when hill climbing and also the sand. go with the 250 and if you could get something bigger go with that."

Some dude replied: "I just bought a 250, about 150 miles later i fixed up a relative's 125 and took that for a spin... My 250 is a honda so it is really tall, but after riding a 250 you will never get anything smaller.
Most hondas are built tall, more so than any other I've seen. And I'd check into a 4-stroke if you're not so interested in racing it."
KB2002 replied: "Have you ridden a modern 4 stroke race bike? I can't imagine anyone not liking them. 2 stroke 125's are a thing of the past man. Honda is not even going to produce that bike anymore after this year. You are too heavy for a 125. If you are dead set on a 2 stroke then go for a 250, but I really think you will be happier with a 250F. I just bought my 17th dirt bike. It is a CRF250R and it is my first 4 stroke race bike and I have raced 2 strokes my entire career. I absolutely love it and will never go back to a 2 stroke again." does anyone know an average on the cost for insurance on a honda 125 CBR, XR, XL VARADERO or any other 125's advice needed on the average insurance
